August 21: Reno Little Theater New World Jazz Project, 147 E. Pueblo St. Reno 

August: (10 am-6 pm):  Nevada Museum of Art,  160 Liberty St., Reno.  Exhibits, art discussions and tours throughout the month; check website for all dates and times. 

  • Musical offerings: First Thursday with musical guest Jen Scaffidi 5pm-7pm    

August (11 am–5 pm): North Tahoe Arts, visit the North Tahoe Arts Shop for local craft, jewelry, art and classes for all ages, 380 North Lake Blvd., Tahoe City.

August (Tue-Fri 11 am-4 pm, Sat 1 pm-4 pm):  Sparks Heritage Museum, collections, lectures and outdoor exhibits, 814 Victorian Ave., Sparks, 775-355-1144. Be sure to check-out the interesting past-lectures online.

  • August 9th & 23 (1 pm-3 pm): Memoir writing class for those over 55, free. Victoria Ave 

  • August 18 (4-7 pm): Art Walk and Latimer Art Reception; Sparks Museum Upper Gallery, Victoria Ave.

Nevada Discovery Museum; special activities for families with children 5 and under; Small WonderWednesdays, 490 S. Center St., Reno; 775-786-1000, $11/$13 (free for members).  Admission is reduced $5 every Wednesday, after 4pm.

August: Virginia City hosts mine tours, bingo, karaoke, ghost tours, and live music all month at various cafes and saloons; for a list of events for August

Hot August Nights Festival ….August 2-7 Celebrate America’s love affair with cars and rock n’ roll.Various locations around Reno, Sparks, and Carson City…..lots of classic cars, music, food and funFree.

August: City of Reno:

  • August 3,10,17, 24, 31 (5pm-8pm):  Feed the Camel food trucks,   McKinley Arts and Cultural Center, 925 Riverside Dr.    

  • August 6, 13, 20, 27 (9 am-12 pm): Riverside Farmers’ Market; McKinley Arts and Cultural Center, 925 Riverside Dr., local farms, yoga (sign up ahead), artisans and chefs.

  • August 4, 11, 18, 25 (4 pm-8 pm): Thursday nights at the Riverside Farmers’ Market, until Winter-Hours Sept/Oct.

  • August 6 (4 pm-10 pm); PILSOS Fundraising Arts and Crafts Fair…

  • McKinley Arts and Culture, 925 Riverside Drive

  • August 20 (10am-6pm): 5th Annual Aloha Festival; Wingfield Park. This free event is a cultural showcase preserving the unique traditions of the Pacific Islands.
