Newcomers and Neighbors Club has more than 50 Activity Groups and you may join as many as you wish. Information about each Group is available in a monthly 16-page newsletter on the member's tab of the website, and is also sent electronically to you. Each monthly newsletter has a short article about each Activity Group and their plans for the upcoming month. To participate in a given activity, all you need to do is contact the Activity Chair using the contact information provided within the newsletter. A monthly calendar that provides an overview of all Activity Group events is included in the newsletter.

Company & FoodBaking Bunch— Baking Bunch is for foodies who enjoy baking, eating and making new friends! Meets 4x a year. Dining In With Friends— This is for couples and singles who enjoy cooking, eating, making new friends, and having fun. Once a month there are as many as eight simultaneous dinner parties going on in the Reno-Sparks area. We meet the 2nd Saturday of the month. GenXers and Boomers— GenXers and Boomers welcomes members who are young at heart. We meet monthly at locations in Reno and Sparks. Let's Get Together (Women)— We welcome all women, married or single, who enjoy making friends. We usually meet on the 1st Sunday of the month for brunch and the 3rd Thursday for dinner. Let’s Live Again, Next Chapter— LLA is for members who have lost their lifetime partner. The group meets monthly for lunch and may plan other activities as well. We meet on the 3rd Friday of the month. Men's Breakfast Club— We meet for breakfast and a speaker on the 1st Thursday of the month. Participation is open to male members of the Club. Join us as we learn about the Reno-Sparks community, enjoy camaraderie and develop new friendships. Oh Solo Mio— OSM is a singles group that mixes and mingles at a variety of local restaurants. All single members of Newcomers are invited to attend. We meet on the 1st Wednesday of the month.Reno/Sparks Hump Day Happy Hour— This group of gals and guys meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month between 4:00pm and 6:00pm at one of the restaurants in the greater Reno/Sparks area that has a Happy Hour menu. TGIF— TGIF is open to all members, both singles and couples. We meet in the evening for an enjoyable mixer at a member's home. It's BYOB or beverage of your choice and finger food to share. We meet on the 1st Friday of the month. Wine Around Town -- If you agree with the saying the "wind makes everything better," this group is for you! Come along as we sip and savor at local tastings around the Reno-Sparks area. All wine lovers are welcome! Let's Get PhysicalAdopt-A-Spot— Interested in some safe outdoor time helping our community? Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful provides all the tools needed (bags, gloves, shovels, etc.) and coordinates trash pickup. We meet three times a year. Bowl and Lunch— We are not a league, just a group of members who enjoy bowling with no commitment. Everyone is welcome - singles, couples or even teams. If you don’t want to commit to a summer league or haven’t bowled in decades or never bowled at all, please come and join us. We meet every Tuesday. Co-Ed Intermediate Hikers We will focus on moderate hikes with less than crazy elevation in the Reno/Tahoe area. Garden Club— The GC meets to share the successes and challenges of gardening in Nevada. We often feature a guest speaker. We meet on the 4th Tuesday of the month. Ladies Golf— This golf group will meet every Wednesday. Let's Dance -- This is a new group for people who love to dance. We meet on Sunday afternoons. Men's Golf— Golfers of all levels are welcome. We play for fun and self-improvement. As weather permits we try to play every Monday and Thursday at courses in Reno and Carson City. On Mondays, we usually play at our home course, Washoe Golf Course. Ladies Intermediate Hikers— We enjoy energetic hikes from April to October in the local hills, valleys, and mountains led by members who have done these hikes before. Hikes are generally within a 90-minute drive from Reno, 6–9 miles in length, and at a moderate pace. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month. Marina Walkers— We walk the Sparks Marina three mornings a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Join us for light exercise and good company.Arts & CraftsCard Making— We meet 3 days a month to make greeting cards for all occasions using rubber stamping and/or Iris-folding or fancy paper-folding techniques. Creative Women Artists— Here's your chance to dabble in the arts. Bring your supplies and a bag lunch. You’ll enjoy this informal, friendly workplace away from the distractions at home. We meet every Wednesday. Hooks & Needles— All levels from beginner to expert are welcome to join us for an afternoon of fun and creativity. If you don’t know how to knit or crochet, we’ll help you learn. You can make items for yourself or for donation. We meet the 3rd Thursday of the month. North/South Quilters— Whether you are a longtime quilter or just want to learn to quilt, please join us at our monthly meetings. In addition to socializing with other quilters, our meetings include demonstrations, book & pattern reviews, quilting tips, show & tell, and guest speakers. Other activities include workshops, making quilts for charities, and small groups that meet in members’ homes. We meet on the 3rd Tuesday of the month. Friends of the ArtsArts Around Town— A monthly excursion to one of the nearby museums, galleries, or art/historical places followed by lunch or even just coffee somewhere (optional). Let's Go To The Movies— Join our email group for notices of upcoming movies and times. Theater Group— Join our email group for notices of upcoming movies and times. | Pursuing AdventureLearn About Nevada— LAN meets monthly for a local tour and/or a speaker on an interesting topic about Nevada. We have an optional lunch (or dinner) in a restaurant and occasionally a potluck in a member's home. We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. The Explorers (RV/Camping)This is for anyone who is interested in camping via tent, an RV or simply sleeping on a cot under the stars!
Travel Talk— TT meets monthly to discuss member travel adventures using photos, video, and more. Each meeting features a member speaker discussing their personal travel experiences. Enjoy a Good Game8-Ball Pool— If you are interested in playing 8-Ball Pool and other games, we meet monthly at a local billiard's club. We welcome all levels of players. We meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month. Bunco Groups— Bunco is a simple dice game anybody can master. It's lots of fun. We talk, eat, and play Bunco all at the same time. We have seven groups, with some playing in the evening and others in the daytime.
Card Games— We have several groups that meet for various card games. Some groups meet during the day and some meet in the evening.
Game Night in Sparks-- We meet on the 2nd Friday. Mah Jongg Beginners NMJR— Want to learn Mah Jongg or haven't played in a while? This might be what you're looking for. This group plays by the national Mah Jongg Rules (NMJR) and meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday. Mah Jongg NMJR II— This group is a step up from Beginning May Jongg. We meet the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays. Mah Jongg NMJR III— We are always looking for experienced Mah Jongg players that play by the NMJ rules. If you enjoy a good game with long-time players, join our group. We meet every Monday. Mexican Train— We play the 1st Thursday of the month at members' homes. cerebral delightsBook Clubs— Newcomers and Neighbors has three book clubs that meet to discuss contemporary fiction and non-fiction. Books are assigned each month.
Learning Spanish— Learn how to converse in Spanish and speak with confidence. If you speak some Spanish and are looking for a way to practice and refine your skills, this group is for you. We meet every Thursday. |
