Went the Strings of my Harp

Beverly Colgan, former principal harpist of the Reno Phil, brings her Celtic harp!

The Celtic harp is traditional to Wales, Brittany, Ireland and Scotland. Similar harps were played throughout Europe, and Bev's harp has some of the same construction of the instruments introduced to South America and then improved upon and sent back to Europe! Her harp body is modeled on these beautiful old instruments, but it is thoroughly modern in terms of strings and mechanism. Each carbon fiber string has a lever that will raise the tone, so while her harp may be smaller than her concert grand, it has a very wide range.

The Merlin harp will amaze you with its gorgeous sound and the wide range of repertoire it can play. Yes, "Für Elise” is perfectly playable, as are many other beautiful classical pieces. But so are “Ghost Riders in the Sky," and Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." And there will be surprises. Bev is not telling!
