Went the Strings of my Harp

Beverly Colgan, former principal harpist of the Reno Phil, brings her Celtic harp!

The Celtic harp is traditional to Wales, Brittany, Ireland and Scotland. Similar harps were played throughout Europe, and Bev's harp has some of the same construction of the instruments introduced to South America and then improved upon and sent back to Europe! Her harp body is modeled on these beautiful old instruments, but it is thoroughly modern in terms of strings and mechanism. Each carbon fiber string has a lever that will raise the tone, so while her harp may be smaller than her concert grand, it has a very wide range.

The Merlin harp will amaze you with its gorgeous sound and the wide range of repertoire it can play. Yes, "Für Elise” is perfectly playable, as are many other beautiful classical pieces. But so are “Ghost Riders in the Sky," and Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." And there will be surprises. Bev is not telling!

                    About Our Luncheon

Newcomers and Neighbors holds a monthly social luncheon or evening Mix & Mingle for members and their guests that also serves as the Club’s general business meeting. It is often held on the fourth Thursday of the month, except for October, November and December, when it's held the third Thursday.  At each event, we have entertaining programs featuring local talent and a basket raffle. Events are generally held at the Atlantis Spa & Resort, but may occasionally move to other locations during the year.  At $25 per person, it is an outstanding value for great food, great company, and great entertainment. New members and members attending for the first time are seated together in a front row table and will be introduced by Hospitality.

Except for our annual special event, you must be a club member to register for a luncheon.  You may have up to 5 guests (your guests do not have to be members).
