    PROGRAM

The Reno Philharmonic Discover Music is an educational outreach program where Reno Phil musicians travel to Washoe County and regional elementary schools to perform assemblies tailored to the ages and specifications of each school. These are designed to give students a close-up look at symphonic music through performances, demos and fun participatory activities. The Reno Phil offers Discover Music performances to elementary schools (DK-5) and home-school groups at no cost to the school. Performances are also sometimes available for middle schools, high schools, and senior communities, or as educational components of community events.

We currently have five different ensembles, and on Feb. 27 you’ll meet the String Quartet. The string quartet excels in engaging students in exploring the composers behind the music with tie-ins to history and geography. The program will be Beethoven influenced, and you’ll hear more about why on the day!

                      PROGRAM

“What is There To Do in Nevada’s Great Outdoors? "

There are lots of things to do in Nevada, especially if you are interested even a little bit in beautiful rock – could be gems. There is so much to see and appreciate on your travels if you stop to enjoy a place along the way.  Nevada has great scenery, small amounts of vegetation especially in the remote areas but the chance to find an interesting rock easy and fun.  Steve Norman, Rachel Carrol and Sven Sander of the Reno Gem and Mineral Society will share what is available “close by”. There will be a map provided and a small gift given to show some of the interesting rocks to find in the Fallon area.  We will also show some common rocks that are available as you travel Nevada.  Your family can explore Nevada by car without getting out of site of a highway. If you are more adventurous we will give a sampling of mining sites that you can explore to find some amazing rocks and even valuable minerals.

                                      About Our Luncheon

Newcomers & Neighbors holds a monthly social luncheon or evening Mix & Mingle for members and their guests that also serves as the Club’s general business meeting. It is often held on the fourth Thursday of the month, except for October, November and December, when it's held the third Thursday.  At each event, we have entertaining programs featuring local talent and a basket raffle. Events are generally held at the Atlantis Spa & Resort, but may occasionally move to other locations during the year.  At $25 per person, it is an outstanding value for great food, great company, and great entertainment. New members and members attending for the first time are seated together in a front row table and will be introduced by Hospitality.

Except for our annual special event, you must be a club member to register for a luncheon.  You may have up to 5 guests (your guests do not have to be members).
